As a mature dating site, DatingForSeniors.com stands out primarily because the site is impressively set out, making it intuitive to navigate and use. You’ll also find all the features you need here to get you dating in no time. Like a number of sites at this end of the top 10, it suffers slightly from a lack of online activity at times and registering throws up occasional problems, but it still has plenty to commend it.
It’s free to join DatingForSeniors.com. All you’ll need is a valid email address and a few minutes to complete your application, although registration can become problematic for some, which we'll discuss later in the review.
What you get as a free member is pretty limited, so if you’re thinking of spending some time here it will be necessary to upgrade to a subscription membership. The great thing is that you can get a 3-day trial for just $7.95, giving you complete access to the site’s features with a minimal financial commitment.
That said, membership rates are fairly reasonable, although your options are limited to a monthly or 3-monthly subscription, whereas on other sites you can get big discounts on 6 month or yearly subscriptions.
The site caters to an international membership base but you’ll find that the majority are registered in the US. There are literally hundreds of thousands of profiles registered, and at the time of this review there were just over 100 online, which is disappointing. However, it’s worth checking back as numbers will change over time.
Profiles contain all the basic information you’d expect, e.g. age, location, habits, physical appearance, occupation, personality and more. You can also check the last time a member logged in, which can indicate whether a profile may be fake or inactive (in addition to whether the profile lacks a photo).
Whilst it’s possible to upload multiple photos, free members can only view the main profile photo in normal size, whilst premium members can view all photos and click on them to enlarge. Image quality is generally good, but there’s a 5MB maximum for each upload. The ‘Little Black Book’ feature allows you to add people in order to view their private photos that other members can’t see on their profile. Of course, they have to agree too.
Members may be contacted by email, ‘flirt’ (an automated icebreaker sent to initiate contact) and IM. There’s also a public chat room, but this was very quiet. You can also create a favorites list and participate in member forums (getting you in touch with members with similar interests).
To speed up your browsing there are a few search options to consider. The quick search lets you specify a limited range of criteria (gender sought, age range, country, zip, city and distance) and filter out profiles without photos. Premium members get an advanced search with an additional 31 criteria (e.g. habits, interests, education, ethnicity, body type). There’s also a username search and a couple of one-click tab searches (‘browse photos’ and ‘who’s online’).
The ‘Rapid Match’ feature is another method of screening profiles. This involves looking at consecutive profile photos and deciding whether you’d like to meet that member (yes/no/maybe). Free members are limited to 10 per day. If you click ‘yes’, that member is contacted and, if they say the same, then you’re matched.
Free members can join, create a profile, upload photos, use the quick search and receive IM invitations. For everything else you’ll need to upgrade. It’s worth taking advantage of the inexpensive 3-day trial to see if you like the site before signing up for longer. There’s also a FAQs page and email support should you have a question or problem.
Unfortunately, we had some issues in registering with the site, using three email addresses and still getting problems when trying to sign in. We’re not alone, either, as other customers have reported being unable to log in once they’ve registered, even days later.
Meanwhile, a few complaints about refunds exist, so if you do sign up and wish to upgrade please bear in mind that their payments department doesn’t appear to be on top of everything at all times.
As with some of the other sites in this category, DatingForSeniors.com is slightly let down by a lack of online activity, which could have obvious implications for your chances of getting a date. Nonetheless, there are plenty of solid features here so why not give it a try if you’re looking for a date?
