There are several different methods of searching users on
SilverSingles, each bringing up different combinations of results in an
effort to find the perfect match. They are as follows:

As the senior dating arm of the large online dating
network of sites owned by Spark Networks plc, which also includes one of America's largest
dating sites, AmericanSingles, the quality of SilverSingles.com
does not disappoint. The site looks great, is responsive and works well.
More importantly, the confidence that users get from using a site based
around such a successful model is a big bonus. As expected from a
subsidiary of Spark Networks, SilverSingles has excellent customer service
and there is help available for almost every section of the website.
In terms of features, the site does not disappoint either. It
boasts instant messaging, video chat, message boards, email and
"flirts". An active community means that you're never far from chatting
to someone - indeed, within the first five minutes our profile had more
than ten hits and three invitations to chat privately using instant
messaging (and this was without a profile photograph, which the site
suggests increases popularity substantially!). The community is active
and it seems large, though it is difficult to see if the number of
"online members" includes those from the sister site AmericanSingles,
or whether it is solely reflective of the number of online
Silver Singles.
The search features on SilverSingles are useful, though they
are certainly not as comprehensive as those featured on other sites. It
is possible to perform a quick search by gender, age, distance and
region, though in terms of searching members by particular
characteristics, this is as far as the site's capabilities go. It is
not possible, for example, to search members by ethnicity, body shape
or indeed, any of the other characteristics you enter when constructing
your profile. This is a significant downfall, and disappointing because
it is simple to fix (and was a feature incorporated by many of the
other sites we reviewed).
It's not all bad however, searchable tools, such as photo
gallery and "your matches" offer
users the opportunity to view randomly selected photos (and in the case
of "your matches", photos of members which fit your desirable
characteristics) which can be
clicked on to view that person's profile if you find them interesting.
This is a model which has proved successful in other sites, and we're
pleased to see it here too. Another excellent addition is the use of
video messaging and conversation through webcam. There is nothing more
exciting than meeting someone 'face-to-face' in this way, and it helps
to make the whole experience seem more friendly and 'real'.
Silver Singles is an attractive and easy to navigate site with
an active user base and a range of useful tools to help make mature
dating online simple and of course, rewarding! The problem with
SilverSingles lies particularly in its limited search capabilities, a
feature which is crucial to the success of matching up individuals on
any dating site. With this in mind, we consider SilverSingles to be
less value for money, considering its membership costs, than other
sites listed in our senior dating review category. As a result, despite its numerous good qualities,
SilverSingles ranks 5th in our set of reviews.
